Born on 14th December 1932, at Bawal, Haryana, India, in a conservative and poor family of railway employees who had no interest in Art. Married to Savitri in Ajmer (Rajasthan) on 20 April, 1950. She was born on 8th July 1935, been a homemaker all her life. She expired on 18th may 2014.


  1. Sanjay, born on 2nd October 1956, MBA from Wharton School, Banker in New York, lives in Rye (USA) with his wife Shirley and sons Sydney and Neil.
  2. Mukta, born on 3rd May 1963, MBA from NYU, heads her own company Silicon India in California (USA), Where she lives with her husband Harvi and two daughters Monica and Sonia.
  3. Yogesh, born on 19 November 1971, MA from Delhi University, is an entrepreneur who lives in San Francisco, USA, with his wife Katherine Sherwood, and two sons Deven and Rohan.


  1. Hari Prakash Sharma 1934-2010, Activist Sociologist, retired as Professor from Simon Fraser University, Vancouver (Canada).
  2. Jagat Prakash Sharma born 1936, an architect with his own firm in Ithaca(USA) where he lives With his wife Kaushalya.
  3. Satya Prakash Shrama born 1942, Resident Professor of Anthropology at Saskatoon, Sask(Canada).

1968-1971 - Four exhibitions on Nehru, Gandhi, Non - Violence and Shri Aurbindo, Nehru Memorial Museum, New Delhi. 1958, 1959, 1961, 1972, 1976, 1981 - designed and executed large murals for the National and International Trade Fairs and Exhibitions. 1986 - design works for NAMYFEST

Music and Films

Maintains an active interest in Music and Dance, has studied North Indian classical music and plays the Sitar since 1956. Has performed in India and abroad including lecture demonstrations. In 1970, planned and collaborated to make a series of four short films on Indian classical musicians. Several Radio & TV talks and interviews on Art. Films including 'On the journey of Art-Om Prakash' by Doordarshan, India, 1987: 'Neo Tantra' by Bombay Broadcasting Company, Los Angeles, USA, 1986. Release of two CDs of his music on Sitar and Om Veena in 2013.


  1. 1969 - National award for Painting of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi by the Honorable President of India . Several awards in State Exhibitions including First Prizes in Annual Art Exhibitions of the A.I.F.A.C.S., New Delhi. (1966, 1967, 1969 )
  2. 2003 - Delhi State Award from the chief Minister of Delhi.
  3. Honorary membership of Russian Academy of Fine Art, Moscow.
  4. Life time Achivenment Award by ART MALL, New Delhi in 2008

Travels and Study Tours

Extensive travel under various programmes in India, USA, England, France, Germany, Finland, Austria, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia, Latvia, Kazakhstan, China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Bhutan, Mauritius, Mongolia and Czech Republic.

Publication and Lectures

Wrote about art in important art magazines and art columns, and gave several public talks by invitation from Art Societies, Museums and Institutions in India and abroad, on his paintings in context of contemporary Indian Art and the tradition of Tantra Art. Advisor to various Art Committees including Boards of education, Parliament House Complex, HUDCO, Urban Arts Commission and several University Counsels. Author of the books ' Art in Art ' in 1994, 'Om Prakash - Forty Years 1958 - 1998' in 1999 and 'Om Prakash- Sixty Years 1951 - 2012' in 2013
